10 Songs for the College Christian
Hello! Its me again! Guess what? Its that time of year again! No, I do not mean Thanksgiving…. or Christmas…or even someone’s birthday (although if your birthday is coming up, Happy Birthday!!!).
It’s exam time!
The joyous time of the year when you live at the library, never stop reading, eat only takeout (or study while you eat in the cafeteria), and pray that you all your cramming and hard work will pay off.
Okay, maybe ‘joyous’ isn’t the exact word… how about stressful? Better.
Anyway, amongst stressful times like so, it is important to keep your study music popping, motivating, and inspirational. So, I have prepared for your enjoyment, 10 songs for the College Christian (or honestly anyone who knows the struggle is real and is feeling the stress). Enjoy!
by Hillary Scott and The Scott Family
I just recently got into this song and let’s just say that in less than 24 hours I have watched the YouTube video at least three times and have caved in and bought the song. Yes, this is Hillary Scott from the famous Lady Antebellum. Not only does she have a beautiful voice, but she reminds us all that no matter what happens, it is part of God’s plan. We do not need to keep trying to deal with our problems over and over again (for instance, exams). If we hand over the knots we keep figuratively untying to God, then we will find peace in rest in His will being done.
by Jonny Diaz
This is a great song that reminds us to just stop and breathe. Amiss all the craziness, it is important to find time to just stop, enjoy the silence, and “come and rest at His feet.”
Hello, My Name is
by Matthew West
This song tells us who we are, a child of God. Repeat after me: This grade does not define me. This exam does not define me. This [insert stressful challenge] does not define me. Remember, beyond all else, you are a child of God. If you learn to shape your identity from that then I guarantee that exam/test/paper/class won’t stress you out as much.
Your Great Love
This is by a fairly unknown band that is definitely worth checking out! My friend introduced me to them and I just love their music so much! Anyway, this song is a wonderful reminder that God loves us no matter what. And I mean no matter what. He sent His only son to die a death He never deserved because He loves us. Now, that is something to be praised. Of course, you should still the best you can, but remember that His love is unconditional.
Just Be Held
by Casting Crowns
First of all, Casting Crowns is amazing. Second of all, so is this song. When you’re down in a rut (or down in the books), rest in God. Take a second, and just be held.
by Matthew West
This song isn’t just great, it’s impactful. It reminds us that we shouldn’t just live each day going through the motions. It’s amazing what God opens up when you let him.
Need You Now
Also a great song by a great artist. I highly recommend you listen to all of her music because it is just wonderful and great and so applicable to daily life. This song specifically reminds us that we can’t do it all on our own. No matter the struggle or joy, God will be needed.
Beauty from Pain
This is a old band that I believe is no longer together *tear* but it is still a wonderful song all the same. With a punk rock sort of vibe, Superchick aims to show that all the pain (studying upon studying) you put in will pay off in the end (nice exam grade!).
It’s Not Over Yet
by For KING & COUNTRY
In those last few hours of cramming, studying, or sleeping (because we all know that’s honestly what we will probably be doing), remember that you still have a life ahead of you- past this exam, test, paper, etc. This song reminds you that you will “get past this one.”
The Power of a Prayer
by Matthew West
And, when all else fails and you feel as though you have reached your maximum capacity, say a prayer. They’re more powerful than most people think.
