November is over! That means that not only are we now officially into the Christmas season (Peppermint hot chocolate anyone?), but it is the end of NaNoWriMo! What is this interesting combination of words you ask? Well, lucky for you, I have written a blog about this! Click here to see it!

So, now that everyone has been caught up on NaNo and all it’s amazingness- let me inform you of what I did for it and what you could do too next time!

Most people will write a story for NaNoWriMo; however, that requires a lot more time outside of actually writing. You need to plan at least the characters, setting, and basic plot to write a story. Seems pretty simple, but unfortunately I did not have even that small amount of time to spare. At the time I started, I was unsure if I would even have time to do it at all! Adding planning in would just be a little too much.

So instead I went to my good ole pal Pinterest and used it to come up with a writing prompt each day. I had pinned a lot of prompts in the past, so I had more than enough to start with.

The month started with scrolling through till my roommate told me to stop (or when she wasn’t there, when I finished counting down from a random number) and then picked a side of the screen for me, as Pinterest splits into columns. I would then, no matter what, do this prompt, even if I wasn’t feeling it. Not only did this challenge me to be creative and innovative about every prompt, but it gave me a wide array or stories and ideas. I basically wrote until I ran out of stuff to say or till the mini plot I came up with in the spot had reached its exposition. Normally that was 2 days, or about 3,200 words.

This worked out very well for me as my main goal of doing NaNoWriMo was to write 1,667 words EVERY DAY not 50,000 words in a month (although that was an added bonus). Because of it, I have gotten into a writing habit that I hope to keep continuing past NaNoWriMo.
