Let Us Bow Our Heads

When I was a child, I always wondered why everyone bowed their heads when they prayed. I mean, if God was up above, why did we look down?

It took me a good bit of time to understand. We bow out of reverence and respect, just like we would for a king. We close our eyes to focus ourselves on God and remove other distractions of this world. We clasp our hands together as if we were pleading with a high king.

Which, technically, we are. Since God is King of all creation, don’t we owe it to our Lord in a way to bow before God’s glory? It’s just another way to show God how much we respect and honor Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

I know, it sounds simple and I honestly don’t know how I didn’t think about it before, but we bow because God is God. It is as easy as that. Its no mombo-jumbo tradition that only¬†certain Christians follow, as I once believed.

This is part of my “I am Christian” blog posts, which you can find here, and my “I am an observer” blog posts, which you can find here. To see all posts, click here.

    • It’s all in perspective–I’m sure there are a lot of things you’ve wondered and know about that I can’t even fathom. Isn’t it crazy that God knows ALL of it?
